There’s something about Viva, a family run, glamorous Italian restaurant, situated in the heart of Matlock, you really do feel so welcome when you arrive. Call me old fashioned, but I find it comforting to see families with young children, parents, grandparents, friends etc all sitting together enjoying excellent food while merrily chatting away. I should point out that romantic couples are equally at home in this restaurant. A truly charming atmosphere to be enjoyed by all. The restaurant itself is modern and stylish with a carefully chosen decor and an open kitchen.
We arrived at the restaurant and the friendly staff showed us to our table. We were both spoilt for choice from the long traditional menu. Eventually for a starter (there is a choice of seventeen to choose from) I went for the Bruschetta Originale priced at £5.95. This bruschetta was served with slices of Ciabatta bread, topped with rocket, ripe cherry tomatoes, sundried tomatoes, capers, feta cheese, caramelised onions and olives. Meanwhile my partner chose the Minestrone Casereccio; a traditional Italian soup made with fresh vegetables and priced at £4.95. In both cases the presentation of the food was excellent and tasted delicious.
After just the right timing our main courses arrived; all the food is freshly cooked to order. I went for the Gamberetti e Tortellini priced at £10.95. A superb choice which consisted of delicate pasta parcels stuffed with ricotta cheese and Atlantic prawns in a cream and mascarpone basil pesto. My partner chose the Polpette dish at £10.75. He thoroughly enjoyed Viva’s homemade Italian meatballs with a tomato based sauce and a wild herb oil, topped with Parmesan shavings.
The restaurant offers a comprehensive menu, great food at very reasonable prices. For children they can choose any pizza or pasta from the menu just a smaller portion for only £6.55. The service is great, atmosphere superb and special requests can be accommodated.
